Jenna's Story

During my freshman year of college, a friend introduced to me to her male friend who went to a nearby college. He and I hung out all day together, laughing and tanning. He invited me later to come take a tour of his college since I had never been there. After showing me a few of the buildings, he took me into an isolated location and raped me.

The next day I reported the incident and went to the hospital to have a rape kit done. The nurse offered me emergency contraception and explained that it could prevent an unwanted pregnancy because he did not use a condom. I was worried I would get sick from it because I have a weak stomach, but she told me it was like taking a higher dose of my birth control pills. She also gave me pills that prevented STDs.

Because I took emergency contraception, I didn’t have to deal with things like deciding what to do with a pregnancy on top of all of my pain already.
